Europe’s answer to the major digital wallets.

WERO is backed by leading European banks—including Deutsche Bank, Sparkassen, Volksbanken, BNP Paribas, and ING. The goal: an independent European payment infrastructure that isn’t controlled by U.S. tech giants. Payments are made through the banking app, which already includes WERO—or through the WERO app itself.

Available in Germany, Belgium, and France. The Netherlands has been announced, with more countries to follow.

About VR Payment

You can sign up for WERO through VR Payment, the payment expert of the Genossenschaftliche FinanzGruppe. The interface is already included in the XONIC Shop System—you register with VR Payment, and we’ll set up the connection. You don’t need an account with a Volksbank or Raiffeisenbank to do this.

Automatic Display

The store displays WERO only where it actually works: Before each display, the system checks the country of delivery, currency, and order amount. If something doesn’t match, the payment method won’t appear at all—you don’t have to manually show or hide anything.

Terms

WERO-ONLY: 12 months with no base fee.

When signing up, you can choose from three plans. If you initially just want to add WERO, select the “E-Commerce – WERO-ONLY” plan.

Basic fee
€0.00 per month for the first 12 months; €24.90 starting from the 13th month
Per transaction
€0.05 plus a 0.85% commission; for amounts under €15, an additional €0.04
Payout
Weekly to your registered bank account; daily payouts can be added

Can I also offer WERO via Stripe?
In the Netherlands, Stripe offers WERO via iDEAL. For Germany, Belgium, and France, the payment process in the XONIC Shop System is handled via VR Payment.
Do my customers need an additional app?
Generally not: WERO is already included in the banking app of many participating banks. Alternatively, there is the standalone WERO app.
How much does a WERO payment cost me?
With VR Payment’s WERO-ONLY plan, the fee is €0.05 per transaction plus a 0.85% commission; for amounts under €15, an additional €0.04 applies. There is no base fee for the first 12 months. For a shopping cart totaling 100 €, the maximum cost is 90 cents. As of August 2026, subject to change.
Do I need an account with a Volksbank or Raiffeisenbank?
No. An active account with a cooperative bank is not required. Payouts are made to the bank account you register with VR Payment.
Do I receive the money immediately?
The payment itself is processed in real time and confirmed within seconds—so you can ship immediately. Payouts to you depend on your contract with VR Payment: weekly by default, with daily payouts available as an add-on.
Do I have to switch from my current payment provider?
No. The XONIC Shop System can handle multiple payment providers simultaneously. You can add WERO via VR Payment and keep everything else running as usual.
