Search · AI-powered

Doofinder – when your customers find exactly what they’re looking for.

Doofinder replaces the search function in your XONIC store with an AI-powered search that includes typo tolerance, synonyms, and instant previews. Integration is built into the XONIC Shop System: product data, the search field, the shopping cart, and image search are seamlessly interconnected out of the box.

What it’s all about

A search that shows the right results even for “screwdriver.”

Doofinder is an independent search service from Spain. It builds its own search index from your product data and displays an instant preview in your store as soon as someone types into the search field. The service automatically handles typos, word transpositions, synonyms, and plural forms—and learns from what your customers are actually searching for and what they click on afterward.

Your XONIC store provides the data and hosts the search field—everything else is handled by Doofinder. The connection between the two is part of the XONIC Shop System: you don’t pay any additional license fee for this, just your standard Doofinder subscription.

Even without Doofinder, your store has a fully functional search with instant previews. Doofinder is especially worthwhile for large product ranges and for search terms that differ from the wording of your product names. The search guide compares both approaches.

Features

What handles the integration in your store.

8 Modules

Product Data

  • Automatic product feed – Your store provides Doofinder with a ready-to-use data source that updates itself every time it is retrieved
  • Base price included —gross, net, and unit price pre-formatted so that Doofinder can display it in the search results
  • Variants listed individually – items with attributes are separated, and each variant is assigned its own price
  • Inventory optional – upon request, the quantity is included in the feed; by default, it is excluded

Shop Functionality

  • Linked search field – The header area, mobile view, and drop-down search field all open the same search layer
  • Add to Cart from Search – Add items directly from the results list without leaving the layer
  • Image search in the search field – a camera icon takes you directly to photo search
  • Safety net – if Doofinder fails to load even once, the store’s search automatically takes over

You decide in your Doofinder account what the results pages look like, which fields they contain, and how the search is weighted. The store provides the data and the controls—you design the look of the search there.

Buy Now

From the search results to the shopping cart—without detouring through the product page.

If you enable the “Add to Cart” button in the product card template in Doofinder, a single click adds the item directly to your shop’s cart. The search layer remains open—customers working through a shopping list or buying ingredients for a recipe can add multiple items one after another.

Confirmation directly in the layer
A brief pop-up confirms the item and offers the option to add it to the shopping cart. The shopping cart counter in the header updates silently in the background.
Items with Required Information
If an item requires further selection—such as size, color, or configuration—clicking on it takes the user to the product page instead of the shopping cart. Nothing incomplete ever ends up in the cart.
Sold out stays sold out
Your store’s inventory and sales rules remain unchanged. Items that cannot be ordered in the store cannot be ordered via the search function either.

Image search

Camera instead of keyboard.

Some items are hard to describe—a replacement part, a fitting, a sample. Doofinder’s image search finds similar products from a photo. To ensure it isn’t hidden in the search layer, your XONIC store can display a camera icon directly in the search field—on both desktop and mobile—if desired.

Image search is an optional feature in Doofinder and must first be enabled there. If it’s not active, simply leave the camera icon disabled in the store.

On iPhone and iPad, the button first opens the search layer; the camera launches from there with a second tap. This is a Safari setting and cannot be technically bypassed. On Android devices and on desktop, a single click is sufficient.

Multilingual & Multi-store

Each language searches its own inventory.

One Index Per Language
Doofinder requires a separate search index for each language. Your store passes along the language of the page being accessed and provides a separate product feed for each language with the translated texts.
Switchable by language
You don’t have to switch everything over at once: Where you don’t set up a Doofinder index, the store will continue to search in that language using its own search function.
Multiple domains
If you operate multiple country-specific domains from a single store, each domain can have its own Doofinder store—separate indexes, separate analytics.

Setup

Up and running in four steps.

Our team handles the setup in the store. So you know what’s happening:

Create an account with Doofinder
You sign the contract directly with Doofinder and set up a search engine there for each language.
Upload your product feed
In Doofinder, enter your store’s feed address as the data source. From there, Doofinder automatically retrieves your products and reindexes them.
Enter identifiers in the store
The store ID and the ID for each search engine should be entered in the shop settings under Settings → Interfaces → Search Services → Doofinder (up to version 4.9.86: Settings → Interfaces → Search → Doofinder). The help text in the backend shows where to find both values in your Doofinder account.
Link the search field
In Doofinder’s layer settings, you specify your store’s search fields. The store displays the required value in the same settings area for you to copy—it also includes the mobile search field.
After any major changes to your product range and after a store update, it’s worth running a reindex in Doofinder—otherwise, the search index won’t recognize the new fields yet.

Honestly Categorized

Do you even need Doofinder?

Not every store needs an external search. There are two options available to you at no additional cost before you turn to Doofinder.

Built-in tools are sufficient if…

  • your product catalog is manageable and your product names match your customers’ search terms
  • you’re comfortable using the built-in instant preview and search filters
  • you want typo tolerance and word stem recognition—the full-text search feature included in your store system serves as an extension for this

Doofinder is worth it if…

  • You carry many thousands of items and search is the primary way customers access your product range
  • Your customers search using terms different from your product names—synonyms, colloquial language, brand names
  • You want to specifically control search results: move items to the top, display campaigns, run analyses
  • You want to offer photo search

You don’t have to decide right away. Doofinder can be enabled or disabled at any time—afterward, your store’s search function will continue to work as usual.

Frequently Asked Questions

About Doofinder in the XONIC store.

Is there an extra charge for the integration?
No. The interface is included as part of the standard features of the XONIC Shop System—there are no additional licensing costs. You only pay your Doofinder subscription fee. Our team will handle the setup in the shop.
How much does Doofinder cost?
Doofinder sets the terms and prices, which are tiered based on factors such as the number of items and search queries. You can find the current prices at doofinder.com.
Do I need to upload my product data somewhere?
No. Your shop provides a data source that Doofinder retrieves automatically. Changes to prices, descriptions, or inventory levels are automatically reflected in the search results during the next indexing—you don’t have to export anything manually.
What happens if Doofinder is temporarily unavailable?
In that case, your store’s search takes over. The store detects when the Doofinder script hasn’t loaded—for example, due to an ad blocker in your customers’ browsers—and re-enables its own instant preview. Your search won’t be interrupted.
Does Doofinder also work in my multilingual store?
Yes. With Doofinder, you set up a separate search engine for each language; the store provides a separate product feed for each language and notifies Doofinder of the language of the page being viewed. Languages without a stored index will continue to use the store’s search.
Can I turn Doofinder off again?
Yes, using a toggle in the backend. After that, the built-in search will continue to work as before—nothing is lost because your product data is always stored in the store anyway.
Does Doofinder see my prices for specific customer groups?
By default, the data source provides the prices for your standard customer group. Customer-specific prices and discounts remain within the store and do not appear in the search index.
