Getting Started with XONIC: From Login to Going Live
This guide walks you through the process of setting up your store in the correct order: signing in, entering store information and legal notices, verifying taxes, payment, and shipping, creating categories and products, testing, and going live. Each step outlines the path through the backend and links to the appropriate guide.
The guide as a video (2:53 min., German audio with English subtitles): logging in, setting up in peace, store details, legal texts, taxes, payment and shipping, categories and products, testing and going live. Chapters and the transcript are on the video page. AI-generated voice-over.

Login and Access
You will receive your login credentials for the backend via email from XONIC during setup.
- Open
www.ihre-domain.de/xpanel/in your browser. - Enter your “Username or Email Address” and “Password.”
- If two-factor authentication is set up, also enter the “one-time code” from the app.
Two-Factor Authentication
Go to Settings → Administrators → My Account to enable two-factor authentication and scan the QR code with an authenticator app. Each person sets this up for their own account. By selecting “Trust this device for 30 days,” the store will not ask for the code again on this device for 30 days.
Employee Accounts
Under Settings → Administrators → User Accounts, use “Create User Account” to set up a separate account for each person. You can control what each person can view and edit under User Groups using “Access Rights for User Group.” Do not share logins.
Under “My Account,” each person can enable two-factor authentication for their own account (demo account). Click to enlarge.
Set Up Store Information
The name, address, and logo appear in the store, in emails, and on receipts. Make sure to update these before anything else.
Basic Settings
Under Settings → General → Basic Settings:
- “Store Name” and “Store Owner Name”
- “Store Address and Contact Information” including company name, address, phone number, and email address
- “Country” and “State” of your business
- “Store Logo”
- Bank account information for prepayment (“Store Bank Account …”)
- “Display sales tax in the store”
Email, Languages, Receipts
- Sender of shop emails: “Shop operator’s email address” under Settings → Interfaces → Email Marketing / CRM → Email Options. There, you can also specify where a copy of each order is sent (“Send order copy via email to”).
- Languages and Currencies: under Settings → Languages / Currencies; set the default via “Set as Default.”
- Receipts: “Your company’s tax ID” and the receipt logo under Settings → Design → Receipts.
- Favicon: under Settings → SEO / SEA → Title & Meta Tags.
The first fields in the basic settings: Store name, operator, logo, address, country, and bank details. Click to enlarge.
You can manage the text for emails and content pages in the CMS Manager; see CMS Manager & Emails.
Enter Legal Texts
As the operator, you are responsible for the legal texts. The store displays them in the appropriate places and attaches them to the order confirmation.
In the CMS Manager
Under CMS → CMS Manager, you’ll find the pages “Terms and Conditions,” “Right of Withdrawal,” “Privacy Policy,” “Legal Notice,” and “Shipping and Payment.” The sample withdrawal form is located in the module “ $cms_withdrawal.”
Replace all sample texts with your own, verified texts.
Via a Legal Text Provider
Under Settings → Interfaces → Legal Portals, integrate Händlerbund, janolaw, or IT-Recht Kanzlei. The store will then automatically adopt their texts, and changes to the legal situation will be reflected without any action on your part.

Also required for online stores: the cancellation button and the EU warranty notice.
Check Taxes and Delivery Countries
Tax rates, country zones, and country selection are preconfigured by default for a German store shipping to the EU.
Tax Rates
Under Settings → Country / Tax, you’ll find the tax classes “Standard” and “Reduced” at 19 and 7 percent, respectively. The tax rate depends on the destination country.
If you use the OSS scheme to calculate taxes based on the tax rates of the delivery countries: A country zone is set up for each EU country (“EU - Austria,” etc.). There, you set the country’s rate for each tax class and move the rates from the “European Union” zone to the “EU - Germany” zone. Important: The store adds up all the rates that apply to a country. If the rates remain in the “European Union” zone, this would result in, for example, 19 + 20 = 39 percent for Austria. Your tax advisor can tell you whether OSS applies to you. Step by step: Taxes & OSS.
Which Countries Customers Can Select
The country selection only displays countries from country zones whose “Sorting in the Country Box” value is not 0. By default, these are the EU countries. If, for example, you also ship to Switzerland, set the value for the appropriate zone. For more information, see the Shipping & Delivery Guide.
By default: 19 percent (Standard) and 7 percent (Reduced) for the “European Union” zone. Click to enlarge.
Set Up Payment and Shipping
Payment and shipping methods are modules. You install them, set them up, and specify which payment method corresponds to which shipping method.
Payment Methods
Under Settings → Checkout → Payment Methods, select the module, click “Install,” and then click “Edit.” Use “Payment via …” to enable it. By default, only “Prepayment” is installed. You can install “Cash on Delivery,” “Pay on Pickup,” and providers such as PayPal, Stripe, or Klarna from the same list; set up providers in test mode first. For more information, see the Payment Methods Guide.
Shipping Methods
Under Settings → Checkout → Shipping Methods, set up your shipping methods with prices by country zone. Several shipping modules are preconfigured by default, but only DHL is active. The Shipping & Delivery guide explains this step by step.
Combining Shipping and Payment
In the list of shipping methods, the “Accepted Payment Methods” column shows which payment methods the customer can select for a given shipping method. You can change this in the “Shipping and Payment” tab. If no assignment exists, the message “Module not assigned to any payment method!” will appear there.
After installation, only prepayment is active. You can set up all other payment methods via “Install.” Click to enlarge.
The guide “Express Checkout with Stripe” explains Apple Pay, Google Pay, and Link as express purchase options.
Creating Categories
Categories organize your product range like folders on a computer. A category can contain subcategories, products, or both.
- Under Products → Categories / Products, open the “Add Category” tab. To create a subcategory, first open the parent category by clicking its folder icon. The heading “Add category to: …” shows where the new category will be placed.
- Enter a “Name.” It will appear in the menu and on the category page. If you select “Different Category Heading,” the page will display a more detailed title than the one shown in the menu.
- Fill in “Meta Tags – Title” and “Meta Tags – Description” for search results. The keywords field can be left blank; search engines no longer take them into account.
- Enter the category text; see below.
- Set “Category Status,” “Image,” and “Sort Order,” then save.
Under Products → Categories / Products: at the top, the “Add Category” and “Add Product” tabs; the folder icon opens a category. Click to enlarge.
The beginning of the category form. Below that are the short description, description, and visibility settings. Click to enlarge.
Category Text
“Description” appears at the top of the category page and can be edited using the xoContentEditor if desired. “Short Description” is displayed by the store in product list blocks that show this category, such as on the home page. The “SEO Text” field for a longer text to appear below the products only appears if “SEO Pro Settings” is enabled under Settings → SEO / SEA → SEO Settings.
Visibility
Customers cannot see an inactive category. This is convenient while you’re still setting things up. With “Customer Groups,” you can show the category only to specific groups, such as resellers; this setting also applies to all subcategories. In Multishop, select the domains under “Shops.”
Menu and Display
“Category as Header Tab” displays the category in the header menu; “Navigation Template” determines how the menu expands. With “Page Type,” a category can be set to redirect to another store page or an external URL. The remaining buttons are explained in the Category Navigation guide.
Creating Products
You manage a product in a form with multiple tabs. To get started, you only need “General,” “Prices,” “Description/Tabs,” “Images,” and the category in the “Miscellaneous” tab.
- Under Products → Categories / Products, open the category and select the “Add Product” tab.
- General: “Item Number,” “Product Name,” and “Product Status.” For in-stock items, enter “Product Quantity (In Stock)” and the “Product Weight (kg)” including packaging if your shipping costs are calculated by weight. Google requires the “GTIN Code” and “Product Manufacturer” for the product feed.
- Prices: Select the “Tax Rate” and enter the price per customer group, either net or gross. If a group does not have its own price, the retail price applies.
- Description/Tabs: “Product Description (Short)” appears in product lists and on the product page; “Product Description” appears in full on the product page. The store displays the “Key Product Features (Checkout Information)” again during checkout.
- Images: Upload product images; the first one is the main image.
- Miscellaneous: Under “Category Selection,” check which categories the product appears in. A product can be listed in multiple categories.
- Save by clicking “Save and Close” or “Update.”

Slider: Keep Track of Link Destinations
If a linked category, product, or CMS page is deleted or deactivated, the slider remains visible. The store shows you which sliders need a new destination.
In the store
A slider whose destination has been deleted or deactivated continues to appear, but without a link. Your slider remains complete and continues to run. If an SEO redirect leads from the old destination to a new page, the slider links directly to that page.
In the Slider Management
A marker appears at the top of the slide, even when the slide is collapsed. Below it, a note explains what’s happening in the store and what to do.
In the Health Check
Under Tools → Server Info & Health Check, the “Slider Link Destinations” section lists the active slides with unreachable destinations, along with their location and reason. If this affects the homepage, a button opens its slider directly.
What the markers mean
| Marker | Meaning | In the Shop |
|---|---|---|
| Link destination missing (red) | The link has been deleted. | Slide without a link |
| Link destination disabled (yellow) | The destination is disabled. | Slide without a link until the destination is active again |
| Link destination not accessible (yellow) | The destination is active but cannot be accessed in the store: A parent category has been deleted or disabled, the product is not assigned to a category, or the CMS page does not have its own page. | Slide without a link |
| Link destination redirected (yellow) | The destination has been deleted or deactivated, but an SEO redirect leads to the successor. | Slide links to the successor |
How to resolve an issue
- Open the slider management: for the homepage, go to Settings → Design → Slider; for categories, CMS pages, and news, go to the slider section of the respective edit screen.
- Expand the selected slide.
- Use the folder button to select a new destination. If the slide is supposed to display only an image, remove the link using the trash can icon. Then save your changes.
Even when the link redirects, it’s worth selecting the new destination directly: This saves visitors the detour via the redirect.
If a destination is restricted for a customer group, visitors in that customer group will not see the slide. This is intended and is therefore not reported.
Tip: After restructuring categories—for example, by importing data from an ERP system—it’s worth checking the Health Check. If you consistently ignore the findings there, you’ll still receive notifications about new affected slides.
Test and Go Live
Set up the store behind the maintenance page, test an order from start to finish, and then switch everything to live.
Maintenance Mode
Under Settings → General → Maintenance, enable “Maintenance (ALL)” and enter your own IP address under “Allow IPs”; it’s listed at the bottom of the page. Visitors will then see a notice page, while you can use the store just like a customer.
Test Order
There is no separate test mode for the entire store. Place an order using prepayment or a payment method in test mode. Check the order confirmation, PDF attachments, invoice, and—if set up—the shipping label in the shipping provider’s test mode.
Removing a Test Order
Select “Delete” in the order; choosing “Credit the quantity to inventory” restores the stock. Deleting the order in the shop does not cancel anything with the payment provider. You can set the next order number under Settings → Checkout → Number Ranges; it can only be incremented.
Maintenance mode is enabled; under “Allow IPs,” add your own IP address (here is an example address). Click to enlarge.
Going Live
- Switch payment methods from test to live mode or enter the live keys.
- Switch shipping providers such as DHL, DPD, GLS, Hermes, or UPS from “sandbox” or “TEST” to live mode.
- Check the cookie banner: “Cookie Consent Tool: Mode” is set to “
modal.” - Disable “Maintenance (ALL).”
- Submit the sitemap to Google Search Console; see Connecting to Google Search Console.
