Set Up Search in Your Store
Quick Search, Search Results Page, Filters and Sorting, Searchable Fields, and Search Term Analysis: Here’s how to set up the search function for your XONIC store. And here’s the most common question: Why can’t the search find an item?
At a Glance
- Settings: under Settings → General → Search; the search services Doofinder and Manticore Search under Settings → Interfaces → Search Services.
- Search Fields: Only the options listed under “Configure Product Search.” By default, these are Product Name, Item Number, GTIN, Category Name, as well as Pages, News, and FAQs. Add Search Terms, Description, Manufacturer, and Variants as needed.
- Quick Search: Preview results after three characters for products, categories, brands, and content; the number of results per type is adjustable.
- Filters: Create them under Products → Product Filters. They apply to category and search pages.
- Analysis: Under Reports → Shop Search Analysis, with a filter for searches with no results.
- Prerequisite: The “Search” menu item is available starting with version 4.9.87. For older versions, the “All Search Settings” section lists the previous locations.

What the search consists of
Four components work together. Each one can be customized individually.
1. The quick search in the header
Once you enter three or more characters, a preview appears below the search field: relevant items with images and prices, along with categories, brands, content pages (under the “Content” heading), news, and FAQ entries. One click takes you directly to the result.
2. The search results page
Pressing Enter or clicking the magnifying glass opens the full list of results. It displays all matching items page by page and, if desired, categories, manufacturers, news, FAQ entries, and pages above or below the product list.
3. Filters and Sorting
The results page features the same product filters as in your categories, such as price, manufacturer, stock status, and features. Your customers can change the order using the sort menu (set to “Standard Sort” by default).
4. Analysis
The store counts each search term along with the number of results. Terms with no results show what your customers are looking for but cannot find on your site.
All Search Settings in One Place
You can find the store search settings under Settings → General → Search. The search services Doofinder and Manticore Search have their own sections under Settings → Interfaces → Search Services. At the top of the “Search” page, you can navigate directly to them using the tabs.

The search field in the header
Three settings determine whether your customers see a magnifying glass or an input field right away.
Show or hide search
By default, the header displays the search. When disabled, it disappears from the header.
Settings → General → Search → Quick Search in Header On/Off
Permanent Input Field on Desktop
By default, a magnifying glass opens the search field on the desktop. A permanently visible input field appears when the header navigation is positioned below the header area: Set “Header Navigation: Position” to “below” and “Header Navigation: Search Function Expanded Yes/No” to “Yes.” If the navigation iscentered, the magnifying glass remains.
Settings → Design → Header →Header Navigation: Position
Settings → General → Search → Header Navigation: Search Function Expanded Yes/No
On a smartphone
In the “Modern” style (default), the mobile header has two rows, with the search bar always visible in the second row. In the “Classic” style, a search icon opens a full-screen search.
Settings → Design → Header → Mobile Header Style
Set up Quick Search
The preview appears as soon as someone enters three characters. These settings determine what it displays and how it looks.
Even as you type, the quick search displays relevant items with images, item numbers, and prices, along with categories and brands as chips, as well as pages, news, and FAQs. Click to enlarge.
How many suggestions?
For each type, you can specify how many results the preview and the search results page should display. Setting a value to 0 disables that type; it won’t be searched for at all. For products, a minimum of 1 is required in the preview.
Settings → General → Search → Search: Number ofresults per type from 4.9.87
With or without images?
Images in the preview help with quick recognition, especially for fashion, home decor, and replacement parts. This setting applies to product images and category images. For highly technical product lines, a text-only list may be clearer.
Settings → General → Search → Images in Quick Search
How wide can it be?
container (default) limits the preview to the content width of your store, up to a maximum of 1320 pixels. fullwidth uses the full window width and allows for more columns.
Settings → General → Search → Quick Search Result Width
Show Product Number
The preview displays the item number below the name. This helps with items that have nearly identical names. The number appears only if “Show Item Number” is also enabled under Settings → Design → Product Listing.
Settings → General → Search → Quick Search: Show Item Number from 4.9.86
More Than Just Products
In addition to products, the preview displays categories and brands as clickable chips, with an image if one is available. Below these are related content pages (under “Content”), news, and FAQ entries. This allows users to jump to the entire category with a single click instead of just a single product.
Settings → General → Search → Search: Number of results per type from 4.9.87
Order of Sections
The default is: Articles first, followed by categories, brands, and the remaining content. If desired, the preview can follow the order you’ve specified for the search results page. If the “Rich” style is selected for categories there, categories with images appear as cards, just like the articles.
Settings → General → Search → Quick Search: Order from Additional Content Matrix
| Type | Quick Search | Search Results Page |
|---|---|---|
| Products | 6 (1–24) | per page, all results |
| Categories | 8 (0–24) | 8 (0–50) |
| Manufacturer | 6 (0–24) | 10 (0–50) |
| Pages (CMS), News, FAQ | 3 each (0–12) | 10 each (0–50) |
| "Did you mean?" suggestions | 5 (0–10) | – |
Cache
The store caches quick search results for up to 24 hours, allowing it to deliver them faster. It recalculates prices for each query, so customer prices and discounts are always accurate. If you save an item, import items, or change a search setting, the store automatically clears the cache. You don’t need to configure anything; this setting is enabled by default and hidden from view.
How the search evaluates entries
- The input must be at least 3 characters long.
- Spaces separate search terms. The search ignores single-character words, such as “M” or “x.”
- A hyphen excludes a word:
“jacket -kids”finds jackets without “kids.” - A maximum of 12 words are processed.
The search results page
This is where users land after submitting their search. This is where the decision is made whether the search will lead to a purchase.
The search results page displays categories and brands above the items, the category filter with the number of results, sorting options, and product filters, as well as news, FAQs, and pages below the product list. Click to enlarge.
Show Additional Content
Not every search is aimed at a specific product. Users who enter “shipping costs” or “returns” are looking for an answer. Your store can therefore display not only products but also categories, manufacturers, news, FAQ entries, and content pages—each type can be enabled individually and displayed as cards or compact chips.
Category Filter
For large product ranges, a category filter above the search results is helpful. It lists the categories of the found products along with the number of results. Your customers can select one or more categories to narrow down the results without having to search again.
Settings → General → Search → Category Filter on the Search Results Page
No Products, but Content
If the search finds no products but does find categories, pages, or news, the page simply displays “No products found” and shows the remaining results below. The message with search tips only appears if nothing at all was found. from 4.9.57
Filters and the sort menu are available on the search results page just as they are on category pages. See the sections on Product Filters and Sorting for more information.
What content types are included in the search results?
Each type can be enabled separately for the quick search and the search results page.
Categories
Lead searchers directly to the relevant product category, with a category image if desired. This is useful when the search term describes a topic rather than a specific item. Categories under an inactive top-level category do not appear.
Manufacturers / Brands
Direct link to the manufacturer’s page. In “Rich” style, the brand appears as a tile with a logo, using the same design as your store’s brand overview.
News
Relevant news articles with an article image and short description. If the article image is missing, the store uses the image from the assigned news category.
FAQ
Frequently asked questions with brief answers displayed directly in the search results. They address customer service questions before they turn into formal inquiries.
Pages (CMS)
Information and service pages, such as shipping information or instructions. This allows your customers to find editorial content via the search function as well.
Products
These remain the centerpiece of the results page. In the settings, the “Products” line serves as a separator: Everything above it appears above the product list, and everything below it appears below it.
Configure Additional Content in Three Steps
Whether and how many results appear per type is specified in Settings → General → Search → Search: Number of Results per Type. How they appear is specified in Settings → General → Search → Search Page: Additional Content (News/FAQ/Pages/Manufacturers).
1. Select Visibility
For each type, enter how many results should appear in the quick search (preview as you type) and on the results page (after pressing Enter). A value of 0 hides the type in that location. from 4.9.87
2. Set Images and Style
Images on the results page are available for categories, news, and manufacturers. For the style on the results page, select either “Compact” (space-saving chips) or “Rich” (cards with an image and short text, up to four side by side) for each type.
3. Sort the order
Drag the rows by their handles into the desired order. The fixed “Products” row acts as a divider at the top and bottom: blocks above it appear before the product list, and blocks below it appear after it.
In “Search: Number of Results per Type,” you can specify for each content type how many results the Quick Search and results page display; here, the factory default values are shown; setting a value to 0 hides that type. Click to enlarge.
In “Search Page: Additional Content,” you can specify images and style for each type and drag the rows into the desired order; whatever is above the “Products” row appears above the product list. Click to enlarge.
Up to version 4.9.86, you can enable quick search and the results page for each type directly in the “Search Page: Additional Content” matrix under Settings → General → Basic Settings.
The two display styles in detail
Compact for quick navigation, Rich for content with images. Can be freely combined by content type.
Compact (chips)
All results appear as slim, clickable chips side by side; for categories and brands, a small image or logo can be included in the chip if desired. The space-saving choice for content intended primarily to lead users to further pages.
Rich (Cards)
Results appear as cards with a border, headline, image, and short text (maximum 100 characters), with up to four displayed side by side. Manufacturers appear as brand tiles, similar to the brand overview. If no result in a section has an image or short text, the store automatically displays compact chips. There are no empty cards.
Checklist for Additional Content
Five steps to the right search results page.
- Open Settings: Settings → General → Search.
- Set visibility by type: Set “Search: Number of Results per Type” separately for Quick Search and the results page; 0 = off.
- Select images and style: Maintain category images, manufacturer logos, and news images to create rich-looking cards.
- Sort order and position: Drag important blocks above the “Products” row.
- Verify searchable fields: Under “Configure Product Search,” ensure that every enabled type is searchable, then test it in the store.
Which fields are searched
You determine what is searched and how strongly a match counts.
The search only searches the fields listed under Settings → General → Search → Configure Product Search. Each row has a search field and a weight. The weight does not determine whether a field is searched, but rather how high up a match appears in the results. It works “smartly” (default) when sorting. By default, a match in the product name counts twice as much as one in the item number.
Under “Configure Product Search,” you’ll find the searched fields along with their weightings; here, “Search Terms (Product)” and “Master-Slave Products” have been added to the default settings. Click to enlarge.
| Search Field | By default | Note |
|---|---|---|
| Product Name | Yes, weighting 2 | Most important field. |
| Item number | Yes, 1 | Also searches the item numbers of the attribute combinations. |
| GTIN | Yes, 1 | The EAN. Here, too, the attribute combinations are included. |
| Category Name | Yes, 1.5 | Returns the category matches. |
| CMS: Name, CMS: Content, CMS: Keywords | Yes, 1 each | Returns the results for pages. |
| News: Name, Content, Short Description, Keywords | Yes, 0.1 each | Return news results. |
| FAQ: Question, Answer, Answer (short) | Yes, 0.1 each | Do the FAQ results appear? |
| Search Terms (Product) | No | Additional search terms per item, such as alternative spellings. These will only take effect once you fill in this field. |
| Product description, short product description | no | These often result in many random hits. If used, they should be given a low weighting. |
| Manufacturer name | no | Finds items by brand name. Only works if “Show Manufacturer” is enabled under Settings → Design → Product Listing. |
| Product Extra Fields | No | Searches the active custom fields. |
| Category description, search terms (category) | No | Additional fields for category results. |
| Master-Slave Products | No | If the row appears in the list, the search will also find variants. Learn more |
Any word or a specific word?
With “Default search operator” set to “and” (default), each search term must appear in at least one of the fields. This keeps the list short. With “or,” just one word is enough, but the list becomes longer and more confusing.
Word parts, not word stems
The default search treats each search term as a word fragment. “Jacket” finds “rain jacket” and “jackets.” “Jackets,” however, does not find “jacket,” and “garden hose” does not find “garden-hose.” Add alternative spellings to the search terms in the article.
Important for spare parts stores
Part numbers and GTINs are searchable by default. If your customers use manufacturer numbers, make sure both fields are included in the list and properly maintained.
The selection of search fields varies from store to store if they have been modified previously. Therefore, check your list instead of relying on the defaults. With Manticore Search, the search index is rebuilt after any changes to the fields.
Variants and Families in Search
Two settings determine whether the search finds variants (slaves) and how it displays them.
Finding Variants
By default, the search finds only individual items and masters. A variant with its own item number remains invisible, even if someone enters that exact number. Add the line “Master-Slave Products” in “Configure Product Search,” and the search will also find variants. It is crucial that the line appears in the list. To exclude variants again, remove the line.
Settings → General → Search → Configure Product Search
Group Variants in the Preview
Otherwise, for large product families, variants from the same family will fill the entire preview. With this setting, the quick search displays only the master for each family, in place of its best-ranked variant. Anyone who enters a variant’s item number will see its master. Individual items remain unchanged, and the search results page continues to display all variants individually. This setting only takes effect when searching “Master-Slave Products.”
Settings → General → Search → Quick Search: Group Variants with Master, and set “Quick Search: Maximum Candidates When Grouping” (default 1,000) from 4.9.87
Dimensions in any notation
8x16 also finds M 8 x 16 without you having to change your product data.
The search compares each search term with the text of your products. If the product name contains “M 8 x 16,” the search term “8x16” will return no results without this setting because the spaces are missing. With this setting, your store recognizes search terms that include a measurement and finds them in the product name in any common notation. Your product data remains unchanged.
Finds every variation
"8x16 " finds "M 8 x 16," "M8 x 16," and "8×16 " with multiplication symbols. Periods and commas are treated the same: "12x1.5" also finds " 12x1.5." Dimensions with three numbers, such as " 60x60x2," work the same way.
Numbers are counted only as whole numbers
8x16 does not find 18 x 16 or 8 x 160, and 12x1 does not find 12x1.5. This ensures the results are precise: only matching items are included, not similar ones.
Use “M” for threads
If you enter M16x1.5, you’ll only get items where M or MF precedes the number. A plug with 16 x 1.5 mm won’t be included. Without M , 16x1.5 finds both.
Settings → General → Search → Search: Find dimensions in any notation, enabled by default. This setting applies to the standard search and only to the item name. It does not work with Manticore Search. Enter the dimensions without spaces: In “8 x 16, ” “8” and “x” are individual characters that the search ignores. from 4.9.135
If nothing matches: similar results and suggestions
If the search finds nothing, it tries words that sound similar.
Similar Items
If the standard search doesn’t find an item, it searches for item names that sound similar and displays them with the note “No exact matches for … – similar results.” This way, many typos still lead to the right item.
Similar Categories and Brands
The same applies to categories and brands: If the search doesn’t find a match, it displays similar-sounding ones with the note “Similar categories” or “Similar brands.” from 4.9.87
“Did you mean?”
If the quick search finds nothing at all, it suggests words that sound similar based on your product, category, and brand names. If it finds fewer than three products, the standard search suggests previous search terms that start with what you entered and returned results. You can set the number in “Search: Number of Results per Type”; setting it to 0 turns off the suggestions. from 4.9.87
D30M or 15x15 —based on sound. Therefore, a mistyped item number will no longer return unrelated “similar” categories or items. from 4.9.131The standard search does not have a separate toggle for similar results. You can completely hide categories or brands using “Search: Number of Results per Type.” With Manticore Search, you can control the phonetic comparison via “Manticore Fuzzy Search (Phonetics).”
Sorting Search Results
You set the default sort order. Your customers can change it via “Sort by.”
Default Search Sort Order
By default, this is set to “Relevance of Search Results” (clever): The best results, based on the weighting of the search fields, appear at the top. Alternatively, you can sort by product name, item number, price (ascending or descending), highest stock level, newest items, sort order, sales, page views, manufacturer name, or randomly. This setting applies to the quick search and the search results page.
Settings → General → Search → Product Sorting (Search)
Up to version 4.9.86: Settings → Design → Product Listing → Product Sorting (Search)
“Sort By” for Your Customers
Above the results list, your customers can select a different sort order—the same options appear on both category and search pages. You determine which options appear: Product Name, Manufacturer Name, Price (ascending), Price (descending), Most Purchased, Most Viewed, Availability, Newest First. If no option is selected, the menu is hidden. For customer groups where prices are not displayed, the price-based sorting options are not shown.
Settings → Design → Product Listing → Manual Sorting in the Product Listing “Sort By”
| You would like to… | Setting |
|---|---|
| Search results: Lowest price first | Product sorting (search) = Price in ascending order. For customer groups without price display, the sorting order then applies. |
| Available items first | Search: Product sorting (search) = Highest stock level first. Categories: Settings → Design → Product listing → Product sorting (product listing) = Highest stock level first. |
| Sort categories differently than the search | Categories follow product sorting (product listing) (default sort order); the search follows product sorting (search). |
Price sorting as the default can be more resource-intensive for large product ranges. For 10,000 or more active items, the store will display a warning when saving. Check the store’s loading time afterward.
Product filters on search and category pages
Filters allow your customers to narrow down a long list of results to a shorter one. You set up the filters once, and they apply to both category pages and search results.
A price filter as a slider, linked to a category and also displayed on the search results page via “Show in Search.” Click to enlarge.
Create a filter
Under Products → Product Filters, use the “Add” tab to configure each filter:
- Attribute: a product attribute such as color or size, or one of the built-in filters “Manufacturer,” “Price,” and “Stock Level.”
- Display in the filter box (sidebar) and display in the content (above the product list): no display, checkbox, or radio button—each with or without an image—dropdown menu, or slider (range slider). The slider only works with numerical values.
- Sort Order: The order of the filters. The values in the filter follow the order of the attribute values.
- Categories: If no selection is made, the filter applies everywhere (“global/always”); if a selection is made, it applies only to those categories.
- Display on Search and Display on Manufacturer Page: These options only take effect when a category is selected and additionally apply the filter to these pages.
Price Range with Slider
Create a filter using the “Price” attribute. The price filter always appears as a slider; there is no separate setting for this. The store hides it for customer groups that do not see prices.
A new store does not yet have any filters. The filter bar and filter box will only appear once you create them. The Product Attributes guide explains how to create attributes that can be used as filters.
| Setting | Default | Effect |
|---|---|---|
| Product Filter: Desktop Display | bar | bar: Filter bar with pills above the product list, immediately visible. drawer or modal: Only a “Filter” button that opens a side panel or a window. |
| Product filter: Max. number of pills in the bar (desktop) | 5 | Additional filters are available behind the “Filter” pill. 0 displays all filters as pills. |
| Product filters: Apply mode—Desktop / Mobile | Live / Apply | "Live " filters immediately; " Apply " filters only after clicking the display button. |
| Product Filters: Panel Style (Mobile) | offcanvas | Filter panel on a smartphone: side-by-side orfull-screen. |
| Product filter: Show number of products per entry | Yes | Displays the number of items after each filter value. |
| Hide filter values with no products | Yes | Hides values that would result in an empty list. |
| Filter Box Sidebar: Collapsible Mode | collapsed | Filter box in the sidebar on desktop only: "none " means always open, "expanded " means collapsible and expanded, and "collapsed " means collapsible and collapsed. |
You can find all table settings under Settings → Design → Product Listing.
Filter box in the sidebar
The filter box appears only if your store displays a left column on category pages: Settings → Design → General → Show box column with “categories.” By default, no page is selected, so the filters appear only above the product list. You can enable or disable the box itself under CMS → Box Manager under “Product Filter.”
Filters Instead of Categories on the Left?
By default, the “Product Filters” box is active in the Box Manager, while the “Category Selection” box is not. If you enable the left column, you’ll therefore see the filters first. To change this, go to CMS → Box Manager, enable “Category Selection,” disable “Product Filter,” or change the order of the boxes.
Filters on the Search Page
The search results page displays the same filter bar as the categories. It shows all global filters and the category selection filters for which “Display on Search” is enabled. The numbers after the values refer to the search hits.
Three search engines to choose from
From the built-in default search to an external search service. You decide what your product range needs.
Default Search
Active immediately without any setup. Searches for word parts in the fields you selected under “Configure Product Search.” If it finds nothing, it tries similar-sounding words.
It does not recognize word stems: “Jackets” will not find “jacket.” The search terms on the product page can help with this.
Manticore Search
Full-text search integrated with the store system. Recognizes word stems in German and English (“Jacken” finds “Jacke”), compares based on sound if desired, and uses the same search fields and weightings. If it fails, the standard search automatically takes over.
Manticore Search is free. Our support team will set it up for your store and activate it. Here’s how to activate it
Doofinder
External search service; integration included in the shop system. Doofinder replaces the quick search with its own search interface and retrieves your products from the shop’s product feed. You manage synonyms, rankings, and analytics in your Doofinder account. You enter into the contract directly with Doofinder.
Which one do I need?
If your customers’ search terms match your product names, the standard search is sufficient. If your analytics show many searches with no results, start by maintaining search terms and search fields. If you need word stems or are searching a large product range, Manticore Search is the next step. Doofinder is worth it if you want to actively control search results with synonyms and your own ranking.
Enabling Manticore Search
Manticore Search doesn’t cost anything extra. Our support team handles the server setup and activation; after that, you can enable it in just a few steps.
- Open Settings → Interfaces → Search Services → Manticore Search. If the page displays only a message indicating that the service is not activated, please contact our support team.
- Check “Manticore Host” and “Manticore Port (SphinxQL).” If Manticore is running on the same server, enter
127.0.0.1, notlocalhost. The port is usually 9306. - Set “Manticore Search” to Yes. The store first checks whether Manticore is accessible. If not, the setting remains set to No and you’ll see a message.
- The store will then build the search index in the background. You can view the progress in the “Index Status / Re-Index” tab . Search results may be missing while the index is being built.
- With “Manticore Fuzzy Search (Phonetics),” you can select the sound comparison method: cologne_phonetic (default, for German stores), soundex (for English content), or none (word stems only). Changing this setting will rebuild the index.
To ensure the index is always complete, we recommend setting up a daily re-indexing cron job. The commands for this are located in the “Index Status / Re-Index” tab. “Search: Find measurements in any spelling” does not work with Manticore Search.
Setting Up Doofinder
Doofinder retrieves your products via a product feed and displays its search interface over your search field.
In four steps
- In your Doofinder account, enter your store’s feed address as the data source. You’ll find it under Settings → Interfaces → Search Services → Doofinder → Information. You can create feeds for other languages, currencies, or shipping countries under Tools → Google Merchant Center.
- Enter the CSS selector in Doofinder, which is also listed under “Information.” This ensures that your search field opens the Doofinder search.
- In the store, enter the “Doofinder Store ID (Installation)” and, for each language, the “Doofinder Hash ID” for the search engine. If the Hash ID for a language is left blank, the store will use its own search there.
- Set “Doofinder Status” to Yes.
What Changes in the Store
- The built-in quick search is disabled, and Doofinder takes over the search field. If Doofinder doesn’t load—for example, due to an ad blocker—the built-in search kicks back in.
- The report under “Shop Search Report” will then remain almost empty. You can view the search terms in your Doofinder account.
- “Transfer Inventory to Feed” includes inventory levels in the feed. The feed is publicly accessible, so the inventory levels are as well.
- “Camera Button for Image Search” displays a camera icon in the search field. Only enable this if image search is active in your Doofinder account. from 4.9.27
Is an item missing from the Doofinder feed?
The feed contains only items that meet all of the following conditions:
- The item is active and has an item number.
- It has a main image, and the image file is available.
- Its price is greater than 0.
- Its GTIN does not start with 98 or 99 (internal numbers).
- A variant has a family name.
- It has a name and text in the feed's language.
- In Multishop, it is in a category that is enabled for the retrieved domain.
- The settings “Google Feed: Do not transfer products without a GTIN” and “Google Feed: Do not transfer family slaves” under Settings → Interfaces → SEO/SEA → Google Services also apply to Doofinder.
Sold-out items remain in the feed and are marked as “out of stock.” You can configure whether Doofinder displays them in your Doofinder account. For more information on features and setup, visit the Doofinder Interface page.
What are your customers really looking for?
The analytics in the backend provide the most honest feedback you can get.
Under Reports → Shop Search Analysis, you’ll find what people searched for in your shop, how often, and how many results were returned. The second number is particularly interesting.
Using the “Only searches with no results” filter, you can see what your customers are searching for in vain—missing items or different search terms. Click to enlarge.
| Column | Meaning |
|---|---|
| Search Term | The search term entered. Click the eye icon to open the same search in the store. |
| Search Type | Quick Search (preview as you type) or Standard Search (search results page). |
| Number of Searches | How many times the term has been searched for since it was first recorded or last deleted. |
| Products Found | Number of hits from the last search. In Quick Search, all entries in the preview are counted, including categories, brands, and content. |
| Time of search | When the term was last searched. The date filter refers to this time. |
Zero results, many searches
The most valuable scenario. Select “Only without products found” in the filter. Either the item is missing from your product range, or it has a different name in your system than it does for your customers. Both issues can be resolved.
Different wording
If your customers search for “cell phone case” while your products are listed as “smartphone protective covers,” include that term in the product name or in the product’s search terms. The search terms are located in the “SEO” tab under “Meta Keywords.” They only take effect if “Search Terms (Product)” is selected under “Configure Product Search.”
Only registered customers are counted
If desired, only searches by logged-in customers are included in the analysis. This keeps the list cleaner when there is a lot of bot traffic.

- The quick search prompts you after every short pause while typing. That’s why the list also includes partially typed words.
- In the “CSV Export” tab, you can download the list as a spreadsheet.
- You can delete individual terms, all terms, or only the filtered ones directly from the list. Without Manticore Search, some of the “Did you mean?” suggestions come from this list. The quick search will no longer suggest deleted terms.
An item cannot be found
Check the possible causes in order. The first three explain most cases.
| Cause | How to check and fix it |
|---|---|
| The word does not appear in any of the searched fields | If the term appears only in the description or search terms, add it to the field under “Configure Product Search.” |
| Not every search term appears | If the “Default search operator” is set to “and,” every word must appear. A word with no matches will clear the list. |
| The item is a variant | Without the “Master-Slave Products” line, the search will not find any variants, not even by their item number. Learn more |
| The item is inactive | The search shows only active items. |
| The item is out of stock | With Settings → Checkout → Inventory → Hide Sold-Out Products, items with no stock are also omitted from the search. |
| The category is restricted for this customer group | Restricted categories and items remain invisible in the search results. Test using the customer account that is reporting the issue. |
| The name is missing in the language | Searches are performed in the visitor’s language. If the product name is missing there, the search won’t find it by name. |
| Multishop | A store can only find items from categories that have been enabled for it. |
| Alternative spellings | "Garden hose " won’t find "garden-hose." Include alternative spellings in your search terms. For measurements, see "Search: Find measurements in any spelling." |
| Manticore Search | If the index is not up to date, new items will be missing. Start a reindex in the “Index Status / Re-Index” tab. |
| Doofinder | If the item is missing only in the Doofinder search, the issue lies with the feed. Check conditions |
