FAQ section on the product page: Answers that read AI searches
With XONIC 4.10, questions and answers from your FAQ system appear directly on the product page—globally, by category, by manufacturer, or by product. The question-and-answer pairs are fully embedded in the page’s HTML so that AI search tools like ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Google AI can read them. You continue to maintain your FAQs in one place and simply assign them as needed.
At a Glance
- New in XONIC 4.10: an FAQ section on the product page, populated from the existing FAQ system—no additional module, no second text field on the product page.
- Four scopes: global, product category (with subcategories), manufacturer, individual product. Order on the page: Product → Category → Manufacturer → Global.
- Limit: a maximum of 6 questions per product page, of which no more than 2 can be global (default values, configurable).
- Purpose: Visibility in AI-generated answers. Since May 2026, Google no longer displays FAQ rich results—this section is designed to be read by AI search engines from the page’s HTML.
- Available with XONIC 4.10 —we’ll handle the setup during the update.
Why Question-Answer Pairs Belong on the Product Page
AI search engines answer product questions based on the text they find on your page.
Anyone who types “How long does this perfume last on the skin?” into ChatGPT, Perplexity, or Google’s AI mode today will receive an answer drawn from pages that clearly and completely address that question. A well-formulated question as a heading with a self-contained answer below it is one of the most quotable formats a product page can offer. This is exactly how XONIC 4.10 outputs the new section: as actual headings with unabridged answers in the server HTML, plus as FAQPage structured data.
Important to note: Since May 2026, Google no longer displays expandable FAQ results in classic search. The section is therefore not aimed at a specific search result, but rather at the answer crawlers used in AI-powered searches, which read the raw page text. It is one of the factors that favor indexing—there is no guarantee regarding frequency or placement.
Here’s what the section looks like on the product page: questions as headings, the first answer expanded, and below that, the link to the FAQ page. Click to enlarge.
How the Assignment Works
Four categories, a fixed order, one “cap” per page.
Global
Appears on every product page—for example, “Are all items genuine?” A maximum of two global questions per page to prevent identical text blocks from appearing thousands of times.
Product Category
Applies to all products in a category, including subcategories if desired—for example, “How do I store an Eau de Parfum properly?” for all fragrances.
Manufacturer
Applies to all products from a brand—for example, “Are this brand’s fragrances vegan?” Multiple manufacturers are possible per FAQ.
Individual Product
The most specific level: Questions about this exact item appear at the top. Categorizations on the main product page also apply to its variants.
On the product page, product-specific questions appear first, followed by category, manufacturer, and global questions. A maximum of six pairs are displayed per page (configurable from 1 to 12), with no more than two being global. If an FAQ applies in multiple ways, the most specific one takes precedence—nothing appears twice. If questions are truncated, a link leads to the store’s FAQ page.
Assignments are made in two places: in the FAQ article within the new “Product Page Scope” panel (global, categories, manufacturer, individual products) and in the product form under the new “FAQ” tab, which also shows which FAQs actually appear on this page—and why a particular one is not currently displayed.
In the FAQ article: the “Product Page Scope” panel.
On the product: the “FAQ” tab with active and directly assigned FAQs.
What You Can Prepare Now
The technical implementation will come with the update—but you can start writing good questions and answers today.
- Ask questions the way customers do —with question marks and the product or brand name, one topic per question, up to 128 characters.
- The first sentence is the answer —complete and self-contained, including the product or brand name, up to about 150 characters. Followed by details.
- 40–120 words, specific numbers and units, factual rather than promotional.
- No prices, delivery times, or promotions —they become outdated quickly and don’t belong in product feeds.
- Do not repeat anything already included in the product description, and include a few specific questions rather than many general ones.
- Allow AI crawlers: The answer crawlers from ChatGPT, Claude, Perplexity, and Bing must be allowed to access your product pages—we can check this with you upon request.
The existing guide to the FAQ system shows you how to create and categorize FAQs in the XONIC Shop System. You can check in advance whether your brand already appears in AI responses—see our news article on the Sistrix AI Check.
Availability: with XONIC 4.10
The FAQ section is part of XONIC 4.10 and uses the existing FAQ system; no additional module is required, and we’ll handle the setup during the update. The section’s position (before or after the reviews), the number of entries per page, the number of global questions, and whether the section is expanded by default can be customized under Settings → Design → Product Detail View; the structural data can be found under Settings → SEO / SEA → SEO Settings. You’ll find all details, screenshots, and settings in the new guide “FAQs on Product Pages.”
XONIC 4.10 is in the works; we’ll announce the release date in our news section. Until then, it’s a good idea to prepare the most important product questions. If you’re using a custom template, we’ll check during the update to see if the new section is being applied there.
