An overview of the most important changes to the GLS ShipIT integration
OAuth2 authentication
The switch from Basic Auth to the industry-standard OAuth2 ensures maximum security for API communication with GLS.
GDPR-Compliant Email Protection
Customer email addresses are now only transmitted to GLS if the customer has explicitly consented to shipment tracking—in compliance with the GDPR.
Smooth Migration
Existing Basic Auth credentials will continue to work until December 31, 2026. You can take your time transitioning to the new OAuth2 credentials.

What’s Changed Under the Hood
New OAuth2 Credentials
In the XONIC backend, under Settings → Interfaces → Shipping Providers → GLS, you can enter your new OAuth2 credentials:
- GLSClient ID and Client Secret
- Automatic token management (refresh, etc.)
- Can be used in parallel with existing Basic Auth credentials
Data Protection in Shipping
XONIC automatically checks the following during shipping:
- Has the customer consented to email tracking?
- If yes: The email is transmitted to GLS (for FlexDelivery)
- If not: empty string—no data leak
