XONIC 4.9.0 marks the first minor release since the 4.8 series—featuring 20 new features and 46 fixes. The main focus is on two new European disclosure requirements that take effect on September 27, 2026: the harmonized notice regarding statutory warranties and the EU-GARAN label. XONIC 4.9.0 comes with both features fully configured—including a checklist to help you prepare for the effective date at your own pace.
- Warranty Notice – automatically displayed in the shopping cart, quick cart, checkout, and order confirmation.
- EU-GARAN label – appears only when you approve an item for it.
- Backend checklist with the “Candidates” and “Results” tabs, including bulk approval.
- Other new features —new news layout, Doofinder with base price and shopping cart button, receipt PDFs via API.
- Effective Date: September 27, 2026 – no transition period and no grandfathering.
What Will Change on September 27, 2026
The legal basis is Implementing Regulation (EU) 2025/1960, implemented in Germany via Art. 246 and 246a of the Introductory Act to the German Civil Code (EGBGB) and Section 312d of the German Civil Code (BGB) (promulgated on February 5, 2026, Federal Law Gazette 2026 I No. 28). Both obligations apply without a transition period and without grandfathering provisions. Our guide “EU Warranty Label” explains these in detail .
Requirement 1: The Harmonized Notice
Every online store must display an official graphic from the European Commission regarding the statutory warranty. This graphic is standardized across Europe and may not be altered.
XONIC automatically displays it in the shopping cart, quick cart, checkout, and order confirmation —and, if desired, additionally as a PDF attachment in emails and on the product page.
The default setting is a collapsible notice: one click displays the full graphic. Optionally, you can switch to the permanently visible version.
Requirement 2: The EU-GARAN Label
This label identifies commercial durability guarantees. It applies only if all four conditions are met: The guarantee is provided by the manufacturer, lasts longer than two years, is free of charge, and covers the entire product.
This cannot be determined automatically, so the label never appears by default: You must approve it for each individual item, thereby confirming that the criteria are met. Once approved, it appears on the product page, next to each item in the checkout process, and in the order confirmation.
According to the European Commission’s practical guidelines, retailers are not required to actively request this information from the manufacturer. The obligation arises only when the manufacturer provides it.
This article explains the technical implementation and does not constitute legal advice. Please seek legal counsel to determine whether and how these obligations apply to your product range.
What You Need to Do
The technical setup is complete with the update. What remains is editorial work: approving the affected products. You should start this early—otherwise, on the deadline, you’ll have correctly configured technology but no approved products. Proven workflow: Update in late summer, approval in the weeks that follow, final check before the deadline.
The checklist in the backend
The “Candidates” tab shows products with a warranty of more than two years that have not yet been approved—you can approve them in bulk if desired.
The “Findings” tab lists approved items for which the label is blocked, along with the reason . This list should be empty by September 27, 2026.
Bulk updates are possible via the JSON API and CSV import. The step-by-step guide explains the approval process.
Additional New Features in 4.9.0
Visible to Your Customers
- News section redesigned —the overview, article pages, homepage teasers, and the “Latest News” box have been modernized—now featuring preview images.
- Doofinder: Base Price and Shopping Cart – The feed includes the base price and, if desired, stock levels; items can be added directly to the shopping cart from the search results. Reindex once afterward.
- Addresses with house number suffixes – Valid addresses were rejected if there was a suffix or punctuation mark after the house number – this has now been fixed.
- More reliable payments – Responses from VR Payment were being rejected without exception on encrypted installations – this has been fixed. Protection against double charges has also been enhanced.
For Your Daily Work
- Order list: Hide product features – A new toggle hides product features—including on printouts. At the same time, column widths in the printout have been corrected.
- Profit Calculation as an Excel File – The export now provides a genuine XLSX file and a text version instead of HTML with the .xls extension.
- Ticket Attachments: Archives Allowed – ZIP and other compression formats are now accepted. Previously, they would simply be lost—the message arrived, but the file did not.
- Document PDFs via the API – Invoices, delivery notes, and other documents can be retrieved – for inventory management and accounting.
Important for Existing Customers
Two changes affect existing behavior—both are intentional and directly related to the GARAN label.
Kaufland: Warranty now only valid after approval
The manufacturer’s warranty will now only be transferred for items that have been approved for the GARAN label. Anyone who has maintained the “Manufacturer’s Warranty (Years)” field must approve these items once —otherwise, the warranty will not be transferred.
This is by design: Simply entering the year does not satisfy the four criteria—only your approval does.
Interface: Warranty period as a decimal number
The warranty period now allows for half-year values (2.5) and is therefore exported as a decimal number: “5” becomes “5.0”.
If you read data from the JSON interface using your own programs, please check this once. Users who maintain data via the backend or CSV import are not affected.
Availability and Update
- These features are available starting with Shop version 4.9.0, meaning they are included in all versions of the 4.9.x series.
- Customer shops will receive the update as usual via the update function in the backend; XONIC will assist with the installation.
- If you’re using an older version, you should schedule the update well in advance of September 27, 2026 —including time for product approval afterward.
